Ultimately, whether or not to purchase a door flap fuel filler key for your Volvo P1800 depends on your personal preferences and priorities.
Recommendation:If you are interested in purchasing a door flap fuel filler key for your Volvo P1800, it is recommended that you research the availability and pricing of original keys from reputable sources, such as classic car restoration shops or online marketplaces. Additionally, consider the potential compatibility issues and whether the added convenience is worth the cost and potential hassle. Ultimately, the decision to purchase a door flap fuel filler key is a personal one and should be based on your individual needs and preferences.
Also included is the mounting hardware which is not usually the case on most offerings bolts with washers and a shim plate see last photo. The key has always opened the lock and you use it to pull up the flap, and then it always stays open for fueling. The underside is also in very good condition, showing traces of rust in only in the mounting area.
Anyway, the only other thing is that I found the door spring was broken, which may have been that way since purchasing the car in it has a key that works.
I therefore give it an a rating. The replacement seals are readily available on and should be replaced as a matter of routine when they show signs of deterioration. I can only be sure that it fits a 1966, and probably earlier, but not likely the side fender mounted ones that came later. There are a few paint chips around the edges, but these can be easily wet sanded to smooth them out prior to priming painting just for info, the original color was baby blue even though I bought it as maroon and had it repainted the same.
This is the fuel filler door that was removed from my 1966 P1800s that I am parting out. I wan't aware of this, but that flap is easily replaced without changing the lock itself. Even then, it doesn't prevent water entering the gas tank when that little drain line gets clogged seems like a case of Volvo designers winning out over the engineers not good. So if you find a better flap on a lock without a key, you can make an easy substitution.
The key flap does have some pitting, but not all that bad. Best of all. The surface of the door is in very good condition.
With the exception of the rubber seal, it has no significant issues.
