What this means is that it does not necessarily need to be in direct contact with your coolant but it can be. A bulb at the top of the capillary tube is designed to probe or be attached to the top or hottest portion of the radiator. This product carries the full manufacturer's warranty.
As long as it can measure relative changes in coolant temperature, you can still set your fan kick on off temperature based on readings from your water temperature gauge to exactly where you want it. This complete kit includes the adjustable thermostat with bracket, a 40 relay, a 30 circuit breaker for overall protection, wiring, terminals and mounting hardware.
